Georgia needs more reentry programs across the state. Let’s talk about why?

Fact:

Georgia has an incarceration rate of 968 per 100,000 people (including prisons, jails, immigration detention, and juvenile justice facilities), meaning that it locks up a higher percentage of its people than any democracy on earth.  – Prison Policy Initiative

According to the Georgia Dept. of Corrections, programs like their Reentry & Cognitive Programming with common goals, can help produce a “Reduction in recidivism results in a savings to the taxpayers of potentially millions of dollars.”

LifeChangers, Inc. was formed to assist in the effort of reducing incarceration and the rate of recidivism. Here is a snapshot of  of the service we provide:

Who we serve:

LifeChangers, Inc. serves ex-offenders and at-risk young adults in the Northwest Atlanta, Georgia area. Our goal is to reduce the rate of incarceration and recidivism – the rate of return to jail or prison.

This segment of our high schoolers, in our communities, is ill-equipped to enter the workforce. The schools do not teach the skills that will assist in their job search. Many ex-offenders say that the lack of required job skills, has prevented them from obtaining gainful employment.

Until now, there have not been any local organizations where ex-offenders could learn these skills at no cost.

How we serve:

LifeChangers, Inc. is on a mission to serve ex-offenders and at-risk young adults. Our 4-hour Workforce Readiness Workshop is designed to teach participants the skills required to obtain gainful employment. During the workshop, attendees will learn how to write their resume. We will print five (5) copies of their resume. before the conclusion of the workshop. Each participant will learn how to complete a job application. Participants will learn best practices to prepare for, and conduct themselves during the interview. We will focus on answering questions about their criminal background.

Each volunteer, Board Member and Intern feel responsible for sharing their gifts talents and time to further our mission.
