Reentering society after being locked up is an overwhelming feat. Where am I going to live? Work? How will my relationships be with friends and family I haven’t seen in a long time?

Where to begin?

Providing parolees and returning citizenrs with the resources they need to be successful is the only way to overcome these challenges. Reentry programs, job training, education and counseling will be necessary. Many states already have programs in place, but it is important for ex offenders to know where to get help and who to ask if they need more support.

Household Strain

Family support is extremely important as prisoners transition into free life. Finances, communication, and general stress are just a few challenges facing families. Struggles with addiction and mental health are also challenges that most likely need to be addressed before and upon release.

Finding Employment

Leaving prison with employment resources is critical. Ex offenders need to know where to turn for help. Programs like our 4-hour workshop on Workforce Readiness provide important information about reentering the workforce as an ex offender.

The key to negating these challenges is to plan ahead and help ex offenders make connections with people in the community.
