In life, we must learn a substantial amount of foundational skills to be properly equipped for success.
The skills that we are taught as children in school are crucial for us to learn to get into colleges, get jobs, and live in society as citizens.
One thing that we can benefit from that our schools teach us is exercising.
Exercising can release endorphins, improve your memory and brain function, aid in weight management, improve quality of sleep, reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, and many more positive things.
If we practice consistency when exercising, the short term and long term effects really pay off.
Unfortunately, we are not always taught things in school that are difficult, but can help us live a better life in the long run.
Something we are not often taught as children is personal finance skills.
If we teach ourselves this, it is easier to keep our finances in good standing.
Reading financial advice books like “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” By Robert Kiyosaki can help improve our financial knowledge.
Learning how to budget and invest is a huge asset that you can use for the rest of your life.
Being able to manage your finances yourself is also a way of setting yourself up for success.
We are often taught to write in school and send emails to our teachers but after high school, it is important to learn how to have good written and verbal communication skills.
Although we may have been taught how to email our teachers, that isnt always the same format or language you would use to communicate with a colleague.
Building onto the knowledge we already have about communication and taking our skillset to the next level can be extremely helpful when building connections in our work life.
The way that you interact with people will determine how they interact with you.
For instance, if you do not take yourself seriously, you can not expect others to take you seriously either.
If you can communicate your thoughts, needs, and goals with others it can work for you and help you propel in your relationships whether this be verbal or written communication.
Becoming honest with yourself is another skill that has to be practiced and acquired, but is well worth it with the things you can accomplish having obtained this skill.
If we never fully understand our thoughts and our problems we will never be able to overcome them, causing overwhelming feelings of stress.
Understanding your problems will help you get through them faster and it will likely make other people see you for who you are as well.
Leadership is another skill that you can obtain by being honest with yourself.
People are more likely to listen to people who know themselves than people who do not.
Leadership increases your chances of finding more and better career opportunities and helps boost your confidence.
Without leadership skills, it is harder to make change in the world around you.
The last skill we will discuss is mastering listening.
Listeners are learners and you must learn to listen with intent to understand in order for this skill to work in the best possible way for you.
Having the skill to listen is the key that you need to learn other skills!
It can help you with business, relationships, and learning things that you did not once know, leading to more knowledge and information.
Listening to others who have valuable things to share will benefit you in more ways than one.
Amongst the things I’ve mentioned, there are many more skills that you can learn that can help you better direct and advance your life.
It is never too late to become a better version of yourself!
