Depending on a child’s maturity level, each child will be affected differently by their parent’s incarceration or their return home. Additionally, their relationship with their parent or parents, plus the type of offense, can greatly affect the child’s adjustment to incarceration and return home.
Providing parolees and released prisoners with the resources they need to be successful is the only way to overcome these challenges. Reentry programs, job training, education and counseling will be necessary. Many states already have programs in place, but it is important for ex offenders to know where to get help and who to ask if they need more support.
