Summary

Help with finding a job after being in prison.

Eventually, the day will come when you get out of prison.
It can often be exciting and a little intimidating at first.
The very first, ongoing goal should be to not go back to prison, but also “How do I survive now?”
When you get out of prison, you will need things like money, food, and shelter to survive.
You will need to find a job to generate money for food, clothes, rent
This can be easy if you follow some simple guidelines.
Without a job, it’s a lot harder to take care of yourself and we need to be taking care of ourselves.
The most important thing to remember is to be completely honest when applying for jobs.
Employers will usually not hire you if you lie to them.
Some employers will not ask about your background.
If an employer does not ask you about your past, it’s ok not to share personal things about yourself.
If an employer does ask about your background, however, it is best practice to be as honest as possible.
A lot of employers will want full details about a criminal record and will run a background check on you to get it.
If you lie to the employer and they catch you, they will usually not hire you or will fire you if they find out later.
If you lie to the employer, and you get away with it somehow, you will always run the risk of being found out later and fired.
Another thing to remember is that you may get told no.
Even if you are totally honest, that does not mean you will get the job.
Even with a clean record, people get told no every day.
Don’t let that slow you down, but instead, motivate you to work harder.
We have new resources out there today that can drastically change the way felons find work.
There are websites and apps for your smartphone that are specifically for people with alternative backgrounds.
Also, there are company’s out there, that hire on a “fair chance” hiring model.
A fair chance company will hire you regardless of your background, but rather how well you qualify for the role.
These companies will still most likely run a background check on you anyway, so again it is important to be honest with them.
Some companies only check for certain crimes on your record and will accept some but not others.
And lastly, some companies do background checks and for some reason, they might not find some or even all things on your permanent record.
You may find yourself in a hopeless situation after being told no a few times.
It’s important to always remember, the world will always need workers and there is someone out there willing to give you a chance.
Don’t get discouraged and give up too soon.
Clean yourself up, dress nice, and go in with a positive attitude and an “I got this” mentality and you will go far in today’s society.
