Easy steps to creating a savory dish for you and your family!

Learn how to make rotisserie chicken at home with a simple seasoning rub that consists of 4 ingredients plus salt & pepper.

This is one of my family’s favorite dishes.

Not only is it delicious and packed with flavor, but it’s a filling dish with enough for everyone to have seconds!

You can also recreate that same delicious flavor for your next oven-roasted chicken or turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.

So let’s dig in!

For this recipe you’ll need a rotisserie oven or conventional oven.

You can find an affordable rotisserie oven for less than a hundred bucks at your nearby retailers like Target or Walmart.

Ingredients for the Seasoning (Dry rub):

Now here’s what you’ll need to create the perfect dry rub for your chicken:

2 teaspoons of Paprika

Salt and Pepper

1 teaspoon of Onion powder

1 ½ teaspoons of dried Thyme

1 teaspoon of Garlic Powder.

You can add any of your favorite seasonings to add an extra punch of savor.

And of course, you’ll need the chicken (about 4-5 pounds).

Olive oil is recommended but optional.

Also, it can be a whole chicken or a young chicken depending on your family size.

I find that a family of six would be best fed with the whole chicken, just in case anyone wants seconds!

Cooking in a Rotisserie Oven

  1. Remove the giblets inside the chicken.
  1. Coat generously with the dry rub.
  1. Insert the rotisserie skewers into the rotisserie.
  1. Cook according to rotisserie manufacturer’s instructions.
  1. Let it rest about 10 minutes before carving.

Cooking in a Conventional Oven

  1. Remove the giblets inside the chicken.
  1. Coat with olive oil.
  1. Coat generously with the dry rub.
  1. Place the chicken in a roasting pan, baking dish, or cast-iron skillet.
  1. Bake at 425 degrees for about 70-80 minutes, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees

Be sure to baste your chicken about every 15-20 minutes to prevent dryness and keep the chicken juicy throughout the cooking time.

After baking the chicken, you can carve and devour it immediately or you place it in a crock pot for a few hours to keep it warm for later.

I’ve also cooked a chicken in a pressure cooker and the results are amazing!

The crockpot method is typically slower, so you’d want to get the chicken started earlier in the day if this is your option.

In the crockpot, your chicken can be cooked on HIGH for about three to four hours or LOW for about six to eight hours.

The pressure cooker method is easy and quicker, and your chicken can be done within 30-60 minutes depending on your pressure cooker.

When cooking your chicken in the crockpot or pressure cooker the skin won’t get crispy, but the chicken will still be tender and delicious!

Another thing to note is you can also marinate your chicken for 24 hours by seasoning your chicken and safely refrigerating the day prior to cooking for best taste results.
