Family reunification is an extremely important part of the reentry process for ex offenders. Over
half of prisoners leave behind children when they are incarcerated. The ex offender may need
counseling related to parenting, mental health and substance abuse in order to successfully
reintegrate into their family structure. A staggering 70% of prisoners in Georgia have a history of
drug-related problems.
