Thriving As A Single Mother

Being thrown into single motherhood is something that no one can be prepared for but it’s important to remember the tools that help us thrive as single mothers.

It’s important for a single mom to have resources and prioritize their own well being for their children.

You have to be okay for your children to be okay.

Being a full time working mom, I’ve struggled a lot with time management, self-care, and taking care of my kids.

I’ve always put myself last because the way I viewed it was I brought my children into this world so they are my sole responsibility above anything else.

However, even though they are my responsibility, I’ve realized I will not be able to properly take care of them if I do not take care of myself.

It’s important to surround yourself with friends, family, or support groups who can offer help or encouragement when needed.

Remember to take care of yourself mentally and physically.

You cannot pour from an empty cup, so it’s important to make time for activities that you enjoy.

I enjoy taking my kids thrifting, it’s cheap and fun!

They get to pick out a toy each within a budget and afterwards we go to the park.

The most important thing is creating memories with your kids.

It’s about the time spent together, not money.

Develop a routine that works solely for you and your children.

Don’t base your routine off what others say is right and wrong.

Prioritize tasks and set realistic goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Always encourage your children to be open with their feelings and keep open communication.

I’ve always struggled with asking for help, especially when I feel as if I’m bothering people.

However, after years of motherhood I’ve learned not to hesitate about asking for help when I need it.

Whether it’s childcare, help within the household like cleaning, laundry, or dishes, or just emotional support.

Asking for help is a sign of strength, everyone needs help.

Create a budget and live within your means is extremely important.

Look into resources available for parents to ease financial burdens like WIC, EBT or bill assistance.

Again, do not be ashamed by asking for help.

Celebrating small victories is important to you and your children.

No matter how small, acknowledge and celebrate your achievements.

Every step forward is a victory.

Remember, we’re all doing the best we can and you’re doing an amazing job!
